Speakerwall Box is a music container built to house a book and a
Raspberry Pi audio player. The project was made for Death Grips,
focusing on the occult charge of a blank snakeskin leather case and
the violent, handmade feeling of the object inside.
The interior was designed to resemble a homemade bomb, connecting the
physical object to the band’s lyrical content and sound. The Raspberry
Pi ran a custom Python program that played embedded audio files, with a
button that boosted the sound by two decibels.
The companion book echoed the box’s material language. Each page was
saturated with mineral oil until it became translucent, and the writing
was divided into Skin, Muscle, and Bone, sections tied to the atmosphere
of Death Grips’ three most important albums.
